Chris & Katharine's Guide to the Texas Hill Country - Part 1

  • Dinner With The Kids

    •
    • Prometheus Pizza

      • Hands down the best pizza. Of course, the kids like the plain ole’ pepperoni pizza - the best because it doesn’t have any dreaded vegetables on it - but this  pepperoni happens to have the highest quality pepperoni you’veprobably ever had. Chris and I both agree that our favorite pizza is the Rozanne, topped with sage sausage and crispy kale. So good! Then there is the one we were almost too afraid to try - the Hot Potato Pizza. Yes, it has potatoes on it. Weird, we know - but so good!

    • TUBBY’S ICE HOUSE

      • Located next door to Prometheus Pizza, and owned by the same family as another favorite on the list (Otto’s). Tubby’s is perfect for the family. They have a full bar and also a full children’s menu filled with quality kid food. I always hope the kids don’t finish their chicken tenders. Chris and I both loved the Goat Vindaloo tacos along with a salad - I prefer their version of a Kale Caesar and Chris likes the Skinny. If you brought your appetite - the Pork Loaded Fries are a must!

  • Dinner Without The Kids

    •
    • Otto’s German Bistro

      • This has been our favorite spot for years. This was my ‘last meal’ before Tess’s delivery date and the first place we recommend when friends visit. The menu changes seasonally but there are a few staples we’d recommend. We start every meal with the Flammkuchen. The toppings regularly change, but it is always delicious! Another go-to - their Duck Schnitzel. No matter what season it is, this is always on the menu and always perfect! Especially the side of käsespätzle… I’m hungry just thinking about it.

  • HILL & VINE

      • This is a new spot in town, but Chris and I have already been several times. Owned by long-time Texas wine fan and friend of ours, Jesse Barter, the wine list has a wonderful selection of Texas wine. Had a long day of wine tastings? No worries, they have a great beer selection and a full bar - I suggest the ‘I’m a Suckle For You’ cocktail. Foodwise, we’ve loved everything we’ve tried especially the Watermelon and Green Tomato Salad and Mushroom Toast.

    • Wherever you go, Fredericksburg is full of incredible food and classic Texan hospitality. Make sure to tag us on your next trip to come see us - we want to know where you stopped along the way!
